Vladimir Putin’s ally Dmitry Rogozin ridiculed Britain for deploying just one military personnel to safeguard Greenland. This critique arose as Europe dispatched a 30-member contingent to the world’s largest island amid apprehensions that Donald Trump might forcibly seize the NATO-controlled territory. Rogozin quipped about the lone British officer sent to Greenland, humorously questioning if it was the fictional spy character James Bond.
Expressing disdain, Rogozin, known for his close ties to Putin and militaristic inclinations, remarked that while facing Putin and Russia, significant military resources were mustered, including weaponry, armor, artillery, budgets, summits, and international coalitions. In contrast, dealing with Trump and the US, only 30 individuals were deployed, a number Rogozin found embarrassingly low. He cast doubts on their gender composition and insinuated the lack of preparedness by stating they couldn’t even gather 40 personnel.
This move signified Europe’s belief in Trump’s inferiority compared to Putin, expecting the US leader to back down in the face of the modest European force. Rogozin highlighted the disparity in contributions, pointing out that while other nations allocated more personnel, Britain only dispatched a single representative without any replacements or reinforcements, humorously suggesting the deployment could be reminiscent of James Bond with his companions.
The group consisted of 15 French, 13 Germans, two Norwegians, and a solitary UK representative. Rogozin, a Russian senator controversially appointed by Putin to represent a portion of Ukraine, is a former deputy prime minister and head of the Russian Space Agency. He previously served as the Kremlin’s envoy to NATO headquarters in Brussels. Rogozin had earlier warned about Trump’s alleged intention to station intercontinental missiles in Greenland, which he believed could trigger catastrophic consequences, leading to global devastation.
He cautioned that the US, under erratic leadership, might pursue nuclear dominance over Russia and China by deploying strategic weapons in Greenland, a move that Rogozin ominously predicted would mark the “beginning of the end of the world.”
