Freeview Viewers Urged to Retune for Channel Changes

UK households relying on Freeview for TV programming should check their devices and consider performing a quick retune following confirmed channel adjustments. While not a major overhaul, a swift reboot will ensure TVs are fully updated.

Freeview has announced upcoming changes to channels scheduled for May 20, 2026. To maintain updated TV guides and channels, viewers are advised to retune their devices.

Notable changes include the renaming of two channels: Hobbycraft TV on channel 97 is now known as Shop Unlimited, and Great! Romance Mix on channel 61 has been replaced by Great! TV +1. Additionally, channel numbers are being shuffled, with Great! Movies moving from channel 61 to 62, and Great! TV +1 taking over channel 61.

Freeview emphasized that channel evolution is ongoing, with providers making decisions to relocate, add, or remove channels. The platform aims to offer audiences a diverse and engaging content selection.

If the updates do not appear automatically, viewers may need to manually retune their devices. To do so:
– Press the menu button on the TV or set-top box remote
– Select options like “set-up”, “installation”, or “update”
– If prompted, enter passwords like “1234” or “0000”
– Choose options like “first-time installation” or “full retune”
– Confirm deletion of existing channels if asked
– The retune process should commence automatically
– Save any newly found channels during the scan
