“Warning: Check Cosmetics to Avoid Painful Styes”

Individuals who use cosmetics are being advised to conduct a critical examination promptly. Failing to perform this basic check could lead to morning regrets.

A cautionary alert issued by specialists from Specsavers UK highlights the importance of thoroughly removing makeup residue to prevent the development of a stye. A stye, also known as a hordeolum, is a tender lump that can form on the inner or outer part of the eyelid due to a bacterial infection commonly caused by staphylococcus.

The experts emphasize the significance of checking the expiration date of makeup products as expired items can increase the risk of stye occurrence.

Styes are a common occurrence and are typically harmless, though certain factors may elevate the risk of developing them. While styes usually affect one eye, it is possible to have them in both eyes simultaneously or even have multiple styes on a single eyelid.

To aid in the healing process and reduce swelling of a stye, the NHS recommends following three steps, including taking pain relief medication such as paracetamol or ibuprofen if necessary. It is advised not to administer aspirin to children under 16.

Individuals with styes are advised to refrain from wearing contact lenses and eye makeup until the stye has healed naturally. Attempting to burst a stye or remove an eyelash independently is strongly discouraged as it can lead to the spread of infection, according to NHS guidelines.
