“Storm Goretti Forces Early School Closures in UK”

Schools in Britain are closing early due to the approaching Storm Goretti. The storm, named by Meteo France earlier this week, is anticipated to bring significant snowfall to parts of England and Wales, with up to 30cm (12 inches) of snow possible.

Weather warnings have been issued across the country for snow, wind, rain, and ice, leading to expected travel disruptions and power outages. Particularly in the South West, where winds could reach up to 100mph, schools are taking precautionary measures.

Temperatures are dropping rapidly, and the cold weather is expected to persist through the weekend, with blizzard conditions predicted for parts of England, Wales, and Scotland.

Neil Armstrong, the chief forecaster at the Met Office, stated that Storm Goretti will present multiple hazards, with significant snow impacts in Wales and the Midlands and strong winds in the far South West. An amber warning has been issued for areas facing the highest risk of disruption.

The Met Office warns of travel disruptions on roads, air, bus, and train services, as well as the possibility of power cuts and community isolation. Snow warnings are in effect for 96 areas, with substantial snowfall expected in the Midlands and Wales, leading to the closure of over 1,000 schools earlier this week.
