“IOC Bars Transgender Women from Women’s Olympic Events”

Transgender women will no longer be allowed to participate in women’s events at the Olympic Games due to the International Olympic Committee’s decision based on a scientific review highlighting the inherent physical advantages that come with being biologically male.

The IOC is expected to unveil its revised policy early next year, marking a shift from its previous stance that permitted transgender women to compete with reduced testosterone levels. This change is spearheaded by the new IOC president, Kirsty Coventry, who aims to safeguard the integrity of women’s sports.

Dr. Jane Thornton, the committee’s medical and scientific director and a former Canadian Olympic rower, presented compelling evidence during a recent meeting in Switzerland, emphasizing the lasting physical benefits of being born male even after testosterone level adjustments.

The IOC’s upcoming policy adjustment is anticipated to be implemented in early 2026, possibly coinciding with the Winter Olympics session in February. Coventry emphasized the importance of protecting women’s sports with a scientific approach and collaboration with international federations experienced in this domain.

In another sports-related development, World Boxing, the newly recognized international boxing federation, has introduced compulsory sex testing post the Paris Olympics. This move follows controversies surrounding gender eligibility criteria violations by certain athletes, like Algeria’s Imane Khelif, who must undergo sex testing before being permitted to compete in the female category.

Furthermore, Sky has reduced the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the upcoming 2025/26 season, offering substantial savings and a wide array of live matches, including at least 215 Premier League games, a significant increase from previous seasons.
