A heartless individual, pretending to be a traffic lawyer on social media, has been sentenced to prison for causing the death of an elderly woman in a tragic road accident. Leigh Sutherland was driving recklessly in an old Ford Mondeo with faulty brakes when the collision occurred on the Condorrat Ring Road in Lanarkshire, Scotland.
The 31-year-old crashed into a Peugeot 108 driven by Margaret Allan, a 77-year-old woman, on June 15, 2023, resulting in her fatal injuries. Another passenger, a young individual, was also injured in the incident. Despite the severity of the crash, Sutherland callously attempted to shift blame onto the elderly victim at the scene.
Following a trial at the High Court in Glasgow, Sutherland was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving and has been sentenced to nine years in prison, along with a driving ban exceeding 13 years. Prior to his conviction, Sutherland had gained notoriety on TikTok for creating peculiar videos portraying himself as a lawyer, a police officer, and reviewing supermarket products.
During the investigation into the crash, it was revealed that the Mondeo involved had a malfunctioning anti-lock braking system and an unsecured battery. Witnesses reported that Sutherland was speeding at least 44mph in a 40mph zone at the time of the accident, with multiple motorists attesting to his excessive speed.
Prosecutor Adrian Stalker emphasized the grave nature of Sutherland’s actions, stating that his driving was not merely a lapse in judgment but a deliberate act of endangerment. Sutherland, originally from Cumbernauld but residing in Newcastle at the time of the incident, had been out on bail during the trial but was remanded in custody by Judge Tom Hughes pending sentencing.
The tragic outcome of Sutherland’s reckless behavior serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of dangerous driving on the roads.
