“Coyote Sightings in Regina Parks Spark Public Safety Concerns”

Residents in Regina have reported multiple sightings of coyotes at local parks, raising concerns about public safety. Scott Paton, a regular visitor to Les Sherman Park, recently encountered a curious coyote within close proximity. Despite the non-aggressive behavior, others have reported more alarming encounters, including being chased by the animal.

Numerous Facebook posts describe instances of coyotes approaching people and pets at both Les Sherman Park and Kiwanis Waterfall Park since August. Some witnesses noted that the coyotes appeared comfortable around humans and were not deterred by attempts to scare them off.

City Councilor David Froh also had a close encounter with a coyote during his morning run at Les Sherman Park. While wildlife sightings are common, persistent coyote presence poses a public safety risk, prompting city officials to take action. The City of Regina is collaborating with conservation officers to safely remove and relocate the coyotes.

Froh emphasized the importance of reporting any sightings of coyotes or other potentially dangerous wildlife to ensure community safety. While coyote sightings can be unsettling, it is crucial to prioritize the safety of both pets and wildlife in urban environments.
