Celestial Spectacle: Perseid Meteors Light Up Night Sky

The annual occurrence of the Perseid meteor shower happens as Earth crosses through the debris trail left by Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle. The peak of this celestial event coincided with a new moon, providing optimal conditions for stargazers as the absence of moonlight did not obstruct the view of the shooting stars. Witness the Perseid meteor streaks lighting up the sky at Mount Ramon in the Negev Desert, near Mitzpe Ramon, Israel, during the early hours of Thursday. In Croatia, observers at the Visnjan Observatory captured a meteor streaking across the night sky on Wednesday evening. Another spectacular moment was captured in North Macedonia as a meteor streaked across the night sky above the Stone Dolls of Kuklica near Kratovo. People gathered at the Monument to the Unknown Hero on Mount Avala near Belgrade, Serbia, to marvel at the Perseid meteor shower. Over in southern Bosnia-Herzegovina, a meteor streaked across the night sky above the megalithic stone walls of the ancient Illyrian city of Daorson near Stolac. Meanwhile, in Jacobsdorf, Germany, a meteor with a green tail and the trails of two satellites were observed during the Perseid meteor shower on Wednesday. The night sky behind St. Mark’s Tower, a 17th-century coastal fortification near the village of Baħar iÄ‹-ÄŠagħaq in Malta, was illuminated by a Perseid meteor streaking across.
