Djokovic speaks out on Sinner’s doping suspension

Tennis icon Novak Djokovic has addressed concerns regarding Jannik Sinner’s doping case and subsequent suspension in early 2025. The Italian player accepted a three-month ban after testing positive twice in 2024.

Initially, Sinner escaped punishment when a tribunal determined that his positive tests for clostebol, an anabolic steroid, were due to contamination during a massage by his fitness coach. The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) found no wrongdoing on Sinner’s part for the March 2024 test results.

The ITIA defended its handling of Sinner’s case last year and refuted claims of preferential treatment. Sinner later reached an agreement with the World Anti-Doping Agency, which contested the initial decision not to suspend him.

Ranked No. 2 globally, Sinner served his suspension from February to May this year, allowing him to compete in the French Open starting in late May. Djokovic, who lost to Sinner in the semi-finals of both the French Open and Wimbledon in July, shared his views on the situation during a comprehensive discussion with Piers Morgan.

Djokovic expressed his surprise at the incident involving Sinner, whom he had known since a young age. He criticized the lack of transparency and timing of the ban, suggesting possible inconsistencies in the handling of the case.

The Serbian player, who faced criticism for his stance on Covid-19 vaccination, clarified that he advocated for freedom of choice rather than being either pro or anti-vaccine.

In other news, Sky has discounted its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, offering savings and a wide range of live matches across various leagues, including the Premier League. Sky will broadcast over 200 live Premier League games next season, a significant increase from the previous season.
