Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a rut almost four years ago. Encouraged by her brother, she channeled her love for K-pop and BTS into creating BTS Army Toronto. Despite facing personal tragedy with her brother’s passing shortly after establishing the fan club, Vann persisted in growing the community. The group now organizes events, giveaways, fundraisers, and supports local Korean businesses, preparing for BTS’s highly anticipated return to Toronto after more than ten years.
Vann, along with her son Jordan and a team of around 10 individuals, views the fan club as a rewarding endeavor that has fostered meaningful friendships and connections through shared passion for music. As part of their Arirang World Tour, BTS is set to perform sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium, entertaining approximately 100,000 fans over two nights with hits like “Swim,” “Permission to Dance,” and “Butter.”
To honor the occasion, the City of Toronto renamed a section of Yonge Street as BTS Boulevard and declared the weekend as BTS Weekend, illuminating the Toronto sign in purple, a color synonymous with BTS and its fanbase. The group’s multifaceted engagement with themes like mental health and self-love has cultivated a dedicated fan following, including Vann, who has transitioned her involvement into a business venture supporting K-pop artists.
Having completed mandatory military service, BTS’s stop in Toronto marks the only Canadian leg of their global tour, spanning 88 shows in 23 countries until March 2027. The group’s meteoric rise from underdogs to international sensations has significantly impacted the music industry, with their album “ARIRANG” debuting at the top of the Billboard 200 chart and setting sales records.
