“Daughter Arrested for Elderly Father’s Severe Neglect”

A 42-year-old woman, Misty McDaniel, is facing charges for allegedly severely neglecting her elderly father, resulting in significant harm to his health. Court documents claim that the neglect led to the development of pressure ulcerations that were so severe that his spine was visible through his skin. The elderly man, who had been bed-bound for the past ten years following a stroke, was found to have untreated bed sores and pressure ulcers when he was taken to a hospital in Knox County, Tennessee.

Medical staff assessing the man discovered that his blood sugar level was dangerously high, exceeding 600, which could have led to a life-threatening condition known as Diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. McDaniel’s father was admitted to a critical care unit where he underwent multiple surgeries to address the necrotic tissue in his wounds. Nurses also found pressure ulcers and bed sores on various parts of his body during the hospital visit.

It was reported that McDaniel and her husband, who had been the primary caregivers, failed to seek medical attention for the elderly man despite his deteriorating health. Upon arrival at the hospital, it was revealed that the father had not been receiving his diabetes medication, resulting in exposed muscles and bones, including three vertebrae.

Following these findings, Misty McDaniel was arrested at her residence on charges of aggravated neglect of an elderly or vulnerable adult resulting in serious bodily harm. Authorities discovered a supply of blood sugar medication at the home that the father had reportedly not been given. The incident occurred on January 17, leading to the legal actions against McDaniel.
