A woman initially mistook her brain tumor for a blocked ear after returning from a vacation. Amy Frankcom, from Bristol, was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma, a benign tumor the size of a lime, at the age of 31. The shocking discovery came after months of experiencing symptoms that were dismissed as ear issues and headaches.
Following her diagnosis in February 2024, Amy underwent emergency brain surgery to remove the 6cm tumor, resulting in total deafness in her right ear. Despite the challenges, Amy, now 33 and running her own pet business, is determined to raise awareness by participating in the TCS London Marathon for Brain Tumour Research.
Amy emphasized the importance of early diagnosis and urged others not to ignore persistent symptoms. She highlighted the need for increased funding for brain tumor research, as brain tumors are a significant cause of cancer-related deaths in younger age groups but receive minimal research funding.
