Trainer and Jockey Brothers Triumph at Punchestown

A trainer, overseeing only two horses, achieved a significant victory alongside his jockey brother as Oscars Brother triumphed in the Boodles Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown. The competition featured entries from renowned stables like Gordon Elliott and Henry de Bromhead, as well as Rocky’s Diamond, who finished fourth in the 2025 Stayers’ Hurdle.

Despite facing tough competition, Connor King, the handler, outperformed them all with Oscars Brother, expertly guided by his brother Daniel. The seven-year-old horse navigated the County Kildare course, maintaining a leading position throughout the race. With precise jumps aiding its performance, the 7-4 favorite surged ahead to clinch victory, crossing the finish line three lengths ahead of De Bromhead’s Koktail Divin.

Preceding the three-mile contest on challenging ground at Galway, Oscars Brother showcased readiness for the challenge. The duo now eyes the possibility of nurturing a Grade One contender at their stable, which currently houses only one other racehorse.

Expressing his joy, Daniel praised the horse and the teamwork, highlighting the satisfaction of winning for his brother. Looking ahead, he acknowledged the horse’s progression and potential, leaving the decision for the next race in the hands of the trainer.

Connor, a former jockey, hinted at the upcoming Grade One Faugheen Novices’ Chase at Limerick during the festive season as a potential target for Oscars Brother. Reflecting on the horse’s transition from hurdles to chasing, he recalled the previous year’s race with optimism, emphasizing the strategic planning and aspirations for the future.
