“Storm Goretti Wreaks Havoc: Thousands Affected by Power Outages and Disruptions”

Storm Goretti has caused widespread power outages, school closures, and travel disruptions affecting thousands of individuals. The storm generated nearly 100mph winds, prompting a rare red warning for life-threatening winds in the South West.

Reports indicate that over 40,000 properties in the South West and 9,000 in the West Midlands were left without electricity. Additionally, more than 700 properties in the East Midlands and over 200 in Wales were also impacted.

Government officials have assured assistance to affected households, with efforts underway to restore power to approximately 150,000 customers. The Met Office highlighted ongoing challenges posed by Storm Goretti, with regions experiencing a mix of rain, sleet, and snow accumulation.

Noteworthy snowfall measurements have been recorded across various areas, including significant accumulations in Scotland. The weather event brought extreme conditions, with temperatures dropping to minus 13.3C in Aberdeenshire and peak gusts reaching 99mph in the Isles of Scilly.

Storm-related incidents such as fallen trees, vehicle damages, and structural destruction have been reported in several regions, underscoring the severity of the weather event. Forecasters have cautioned about potential widespread flooding in the upcoming weekend, with the River Ouse in Barcombe, East Sussex already experiencing overflow.

Authorities remain vigilant as Storm Goretti continues to impact different parts of the country with a mix of wind, rain, snow, and icy conditions. Birmingham Airport took proactive measures, utilizing snowploughs to maintain operations during blizzard conditions. The storm, named by Meteo France, also unleashed massive waves along the northwest coast of the country.
