A pub in West Dublin was targeted by an armed assailant last night, but quick-thinking patrons intervened to prevent any shots from being fired. Authorities responded to the incident at The 79 Inn in Ballyfermot after receiving reports of a man brandishing a gun. Witnesses stated that the gunman was thwarted by patrons who threw a bar stool at him, allowing the intended victim to escape unharmed. The assailant, wearing a balaclava, fled the scene as police arrived.
The altercation is believed to have stemmed from a verbal dispute earlier in the evening. Gardai confirmed they are investigating the incident at the licensed establishment in Ballyfermot, Dublin 10, on January 10, 2026.
