Luke Littler shared that a comment from Ricardo Pietreczko motivated him to defeat the German 10-6 and secure a spot in the quarter-finals of the Players Championship Finals. Despite initially trailing 3-1 against Pietreczko, Littler, also known as ‘The Nuke,’ staged a comeback, winning nine out of the following 12 legs with an impressive average to advance to the last eight in Minehead.
During a crucial moment when the score was tied at five each, Pietreczko’s comment fueled Littler’s determination. Following the match, Littler revealed that Pietreczko’s remark, expressing surprise at Littler’s performance, served as added motivation for him to win the game and showcase his skills.
With an average of 102.67 and six 180s, the rising star, born in 2007, recently claimed the world No.1 ranking after his Grand Slam triumph. Littler’s performance included recreating a contentious 121 finish from a previous European Tour event in a signature Littler style: hitting bull, treble 7, and bull.
Reflecting on his game, Littler expressed his focus on improving his doubles performance and acknowledged the need to sharpen his skills for future matches. He is set to face world No.9 Chris Dobey in the upcoming quarter-final match, with the potential to compete against either Gerwyn Price or Daryl Gurney in the semi-finals if successful.
Additionally, Nathan Aspinall and Josh Rock are set to compete in another quarter-final match, while James Wade and Jermaine Wattimena will conclude the afternoon session at the Players Championship Finals.
