The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced on Monday the arrest of a 51-year-old individual for allegedly making death threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney. Marc-André Porlier, residing in Montreal, faces charges of uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, as per an RCMP press release. The threats were reportedly conveyed in an email to various recipients, including a senator, as detailed in the official statement.
In addition to targeting the Prime Minister, the accused allegedly threatened “all Canadian police officers,” as indicated in the charge sheet. Porlier had previously been convicted of arson and mischief for setting fire to a church in Toronto in 2017, as confirmed by law enforcement officials. At the time of the recent arrest, he was still under probation for those prior offenses, as stated by an RCMP representative.
Porlier made a court appearance on Saturday, according to the press release, emphasizing that the charges against him remain unproven in court.
