McDonald’s Fans Fume as Hash Brown Price Nears £2

McDonald’s enthusiasts are expressing dismay following a widely circulated post on X showcasing the soaring price of a hash brown, which has nearly hit £2 in select restaurants.

The post features an image of a McDonald’s menu board displaying a £1.99 price tag for a hash brown at the specific outlet the individual visited. Shared with a caption stating, “£2 for one lone hash brown. We’re officially calling it quits,” the post has garnered over 459,000 views.

Various reactions ensued, with one person remarking, “It’s become outrageous, I seldom visit but it used to be a budget-friendly choice.” Another commented, “For that price, you might as well get the sausage sandwich.” A third succinctly expressed, “Insanity.”

Another individual chimed in, noting, “Those hash browns are the best thing they ever invented. But £2 is simply too much.” While someone else reminisced, “I recall when they were 59p.”

In response to the escalating prices, a McDonald’s representative clarified, “A substantial portion of our restaurants are independently owned and operated by franchisees, who determine their pricing. Consequently, individual item prices may vary; nevertheless, all share our dedication to offering customers a top-notch dining experience and excellent value for money.”

This development follows McDonald’s announcement of an upcoming adjustment to the redemption points required for free items through MyMcDonald’s Rewards. Presently, 5,500 points are needed for selections like a Big Mac, Double Fillet of Fish, Double Sausage and Egg McMuffin, and Nine Chicken Nuggets. However, commencing March 17, the requisite points will increase to 6,500 for any of these items, with 100 points earned for every £1 spent at McDonald’s.

Furthermore, the points threshold for items such as a Medium Coffee or Small Fries will rise from 1,500 to 2,000 points. Similarly, to acquire a regular McFlurry or an Apple Pie, the points needed will escalate from 2,500 to 3,500. For a Double Cheeseburger or a McChicken sandwich, the requirement will climb to 5,000 points, up from 4,000 points.

In addressing the loyalty scheme adjustments, a spokesperson for McDonald’s informed The Sun that the revisions were influenced by the escalating costs of food and supplies. They emphasized, “While we have raised the points required across all tiers to mirror the rising costs of food and supplies, we have also introduced several beloved items now available for redemption for the first time. These include our popular Chicken Selects, Cheese sides, and the delectable new Sausage Sandwich, enhancing the choices for our patrons.”
