A man was fatally shot by police officers after he brandished a bow and arrow at them. The incident occurred during a welfare check at a residence on Quia Road in Gunnedah, located approximately 450km northwest of Sydney, on Friday, January 16.
Upon arrival, the police engaged with the man outside the house. Subsequently, he reappeared carrying the weapon and aimed it at the officers, prompting them to seek cover in their vehicle. In response to the threat, the police discharged a firearm, resulting in the man’s death despite efforts to save him.
Following the shooting, a critical incident investigation was initiated by New South Wales Police. The authorities confirmed that the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will spearhead the inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event, with oversight from the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
