FIFA COO Lamour Departs Amid World Cup Business Dispute

FIFA announced on Monday that Kevin Lamour, the Chief Operating Officer, has departed from the organization. This move follows Lamour’s public criticism of President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell a share in FIFA’s tournament business, which includes the prestigious World Cup.

A spokesperson for FIFA confirmed the end of Lamour’s tenure as Chief Operating Officer, thanking him for his two years of service and wishing him success in his future endeavors. The spokesperson stated that there would be no further comments on the matter.

The departure of Lamour was communicated to FIFA staff and Council members by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom in a letter, indicating that both parties mutually agreed to part ways after recent discussions.

Lamour had expressed his discontent with the proposal in the past month, accusing FIFA staff of being misled and labeling the initiative as driven by the interests of one individual rather than the organization’s mission to serve football.

Carlos Cordeiro, a senior adviser to Infantino, also resigned in protest against the proposal, citing it as detrimental to football. Lamour had joined FIFA in November 2024 and was previously associated with Infantino’s inner circle during the campaign for his presidency in 2016.
