Elderly Man Tries to Board Plane with Deceased Wife

An octogenarian was apprehended after trying to board a plane with his deceased wife, causing a stir among airport personnel. The elderly man was stopped by security at Tenerife South Airport due to suspicions surrounding his wife’s condition. Startlingly, he informed the police that his wife had passed away at the airport shortly before their scheduled flight.

Airport staff noticed the woman, seated in a wheelchair, was unresponsive with a significantly low body temperature. The incident occurred at the metal detector checkpoint in the airport’s security zone. It wasn’t until a security guard realized the woman did not react when he touched her hand that concerns arose, leading to the man’s arrest for further interrogation.

Details of the incident were reported by Spanish newspaper Diario de Avisos, without disclosing the specific date, airline, or nationalities of the couple. Nevertheless, Tenerife Airport confirmed that the event occurred several months ago.

According to reports, a Tenerife South airport employee described how the guard approached the woman and noticed her abnormally low temperature and lack of breathing. The supervisor was alerted promptly, and the emergency protocol was activated, with multiple security agents, Civil Guard members, and forensic personnel responding to the scene.

Initial statements from the husband suggest his wife had died a few hours earlier inside the airport. However, some staff members claim the man tried to shift blame for the death to the airport facilities. Authorities and airport officials are reportedly investigating this allegation.

The man was arrested and is currently cooperating with authorities. An inquiry has been launched into the death, with uncertainties about potential actions against the man.
