“UK and France Troop Deployment Leaves Putin Puzzled”

Former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov has remarked that the commitment of the UK and France to deploy troops in Ukraine has had a significant impact and left Russian President Vladimir Putin puzzled.

Kasyanov highlighted that the formation of a coalition of willing nations has unsettled Putin, who now faces uncertainty about his next steps. This development followed statements by UK opposition leader Keir Starmer that military facilities would be established in Ukraine by the UK and France in the event of a peace agreement.

Speaking on Times Radio, Kasyanov emphasized the need for Putin to adjust his approach in light of recent events, stating that the coalition’s actions in Paris have altered the dynamics and separated the issue of security guarantees for Ukraine from other negotiations.

He further noted that the transatlantic unity demonstrated during the discussions, particularly with the involvement of US envoy Steve Witkoff, signified a significant shift in strategy. The decision to deploy troops on the ground has put pressure on Putin, leaving him unsure of how to respond.

Kasyanov underscored the importance of the support extended to Ukraine by European countries, with the backing of the US, as a means of pressuring Putin to reconsider his stance. This solidarity was solidified through a joint declaration signed by the UK, France, and Ukraine in Paris to provide military support post-ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Dmitry Rogozin, a key ally of Putin, criticized Starmer for proposing the deployment of British troops in Ukraine, warning of potential repercussions from Russia. Rogozin’s remarks reflected a stance of opposition to any foreign military presence in the region.

On a positive note, US envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed President Donald Trump’s commitment to ensuring security guarantees for Ukraine and deterring Russian aggression. The proposed blueprint includes the formation of a multinational force for Ukraine, with potential support from non-European nations, including the US.

Additionally, the declaration outlines plans for US-led ceasefire monitoring, sustained backing for the Ukrainian military, and strategic support for Kyiv in the event of future Russian hostilities, signaling a unified front in defense of Ukrainian sovereignty.

Keir Starmer expressed optimism about the collective efforts of European and American allies in supporting peace initiatives alongside President Zelensky, emphasizing the progress made while acknowledging the challenges that lie ahead.
