President Donald Trump announced a new agreement with NATO members at Davos, ensuring the US will have unrestricted access to Greenland. In addition, a portion of America’s missile defense system, the “Golden Dome,” will be deployed in Greenland.
During an interview at the World Economic Forum, Trump emphasized the necessity of Greenland for US security, highlighting that the country will have complete access, including military access. He assured that there would be no financial obligations and reiterated the importance of national and international security.
The specifics of the agreement with NATO are still being finalized, following Trump’s previous discussions about a potential deal concerning Greenland. This development also signals a withdrawal of tariff threats against UK and EU allies who opposed the annexation plan.
Trump confirmed that the deal would encompass Greenland’s resources, the Golden Dome missile defense system, and would be a long-lasting commitment. Although questioned about US territorial ownership in Greenland, Trump described the arrangement as intricate.
Ongoing discussions on Greenland involve key figures like Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and special envoy Steve Witkoff.
