A renowned jockey narrowly escaped a fatal accident when her pelvis was severely injured by a falling horse. Sonja Logan, in 2023, faced a traumatic incident where assailants attempted to steal her car. The attackers vandalized her vehicle, causing severe injuries to her face just weeks before her wedding. Unfortunately, the culprits fled upon detection and were never apprehended. Recalling the excruciating pain of being trapped under a half-ton racehorse, Logan described it as the most intense suffering she had ever experienced.
During the incident, Logan was riding Jumping Power Two, a horse trained by her husband Tommy, who had been victorious in four consecutive races under her guidance. The unfortunate event occurred when the six-year-old horse became frightened by an unknown stimulus.
Following the accident, Logan recounted the moment the horse reared up, causing her to fall and be crushed by the animal, resulting in a severe pelvic injury. Subsequently, she was transported to Darwin Royal Hospital and later transferred to Adelaide Royal Hospital for specialized treatment due to the complexity of her injuries. Medical intervention included the insertion of screws and a plate to stabilize her shattered pelvis.
Reflecting on the harrowing experience, Logan emphasized the severity of the pain she endured, ranking it as the most intense she had ever felt. She expressed gratitude for narrowly avoiding more catastrophic injuries and highlighted the challenges of the recovery process, currently relying on a walking aid for mobility.
Despite the physical and emotional toll of the accident, Logan remains determined to return to competitive riding, aiming for a comeback within six to eight months pending successful rehabilitation. Her resilience and determination are evident as she navigates the path to recovery, supported by her husband and a network of well-wishers.
In a bid to overcome her mental struggles post-incident, Logan turned to competitive bodybuilding as a form of therapy, finding solace in the sport and surrounding herself with a strong support system. Grateful for the unwavering support from her loved ones, Logan credits her husband for his constant care and assistance throughout her recovery journey.
