“Everyday Heroes Honored at 2024 Pride of Britain Awards”

An individual passionate about football managed to raise more than £260,000 for charity through the sale of samosas. Another hero, a mother, bravely rescued a 10-year-old boy from drowning by jumping into the sea. Additionally, a five-year-old girl demonstrated remarkable courage in rebuilding her life after losing both legs.

These exceptional individuals were recognized at the 2024 Pride of Britain Awards, where they were selected from a vast pool of public nominations. The awards ceremony, held in London and co-hosted by Ashley Banjo and Carol Vorderman, honored these everyday heroes.

The event took an exciting turn when P&O Cruises, the new headline sponsor of the Pride of Britain Awards, surprised each of the 12 winners with a cruise holiday. This gesture provided them with an opportunity to create lasting memories on a wonderful trip with their families.

Among the winners were three heroes who embarked on a 14-night Caribbean voyage aboard the Britannia, exploring eight picturesque islands and indulging in top-notch entertainment.

Aiyla Mota, a Young Child of Courage

Aiyla Mota fell critically ill with sepsis just before her fourth birthday, leading to the amputation of both her legs and five fingers to save her life. Despite the challenging ordeal, the five-year-old displayed exceptional bravery and resilience, earning her a Pride of Britain Award and making her one of the youngest winners in history.

Her mother, Eulanda, shared, “Aiyla has maintained her lively personality throughout her journey, even becoming more confident and spirited. It’s like witnessing a magnified version of Aiyla’s vibrant self.”

Following the awards ceremony, Aiyla and her family embarked on a Caribbean cruise aboard the Britannia, relishing the ship’s numerous amenities and exploring the diverse offerings on the islands they visited.

Reflecting on the experience, Eulanda expressed gratitude, stating, “The cruise was an extraordinary vacation, and we are thankful to P&O Cruises for this amazing opportunity. It was our first cruise, and the abundance of activities onboard was a pleasant surprise.”

Aiyla particularly enjoyed the kids’ club, entertainment options, late-night activities, and excursions to the beautiful beaches and rainforests on the islands.

“For me, visiting Barbados was truly special. It felt like a connection to my heritage, and I felt immensely blessed to be there,” Eulanda added.

Emily Greenwood, Exemplary Bravery

During a winter stroll on a Cornish beach with her disabled son, Isaac, Emily Greenwood witnessed a harrowing incident. A 10-year-old boy surfing nearby was caught in a riptide, prompting Emily to leap into the frigid water to rescue him and his struggling mother.

Emily’s swift actions and courageous effort in battling the elements to bring the distressed individuals back to safety earned her a Pride of Britain Award. Subsequently, she enjoyed a Caribbean cruise with her family, reveling in the luxurious experience and the warm hospitality aboard the Britannia.

Recalling the trip, Emily shared, “It was a dream vacation for all of us, especially for Isaac, who usually has dietary restrictions. The crew’s exceptional service and attention to detail made our cruise truly enjoyable.”

The family cherished their time exploring the Caribbean’s stunning beaches, with Isaac benefitting from the specially designed beach wheelchair for a memorable hydrotherapy experience.

Manny Singh Kang, ITV Fundraiser of the Year

Manny Singh Kang’s inventive fundraising efforts for Dementia UK involved selling homemade samosas outside a football ground on matchdays and participating in various endurance activities. His dedication over the years raised significant funds for the charity.

Recognizing his remarkable contribution, Manny was rewarded with a Caribbean cruise by P&O Cruises, offering him a well-deserved break after years of fundraising endeavors. Accompanied by his family, Manny enjoyed the scenic beauty and warm hospitality during the cruise.
