“US Secretary of State to Discuss Greenland Acquisition with Denmark”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is set to hold discussions with Danish representatives regarding President Donald Trump’s proposal to acquire Greenland. Rubio mentioned his upcoming meeting with the Danish officials during a press briefing today.

This development follows the White House confirming President Trump’s interest in taking control of Greenland before the end of his term. While Trump initially expressed a preference to purchase Greenland from Denmark, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated that if Denmark rejects the offer, the President is prepared to utilize the US military to secure the territory.

Leavitt emphasized that Trump views gaining control of Greenland as a crucial national security objective for the United States, particularly in countering potential adversaries in the Arctic region. She noted that the administration is exploring various strategies to achieve this foreign policy goal, including the option of military intervention if deemed necessary.

The escalating situation arose after Trump faced backlash from European leaders criticizing his pursuit of Greenland, with Denmark cautioning that such a move could jeopardize the NATO alliance. In response, Trump took to Truth Social to defend his actions, implying that NATO might not support the US in the future. However, he did not acknowledge NATO’s past solidarity with the US following the 9/11 attacks.

Moreover, Trump criticized Norway for not awarding him the Nobel Prize, claiming that China and Russia would not fear NATO without US involvement. Despite his grievances, Trump affirmed the US’s commitment to NATO, stating, “We will always stand by NATO, even if they do not reciprocate.”
