Shoe repair chain Timpson has introduced a new service allowing customers to trade in their old mobile phones. The company, renowned for its key cutting and other services, has partnered with gadget resell firm musicMagpie and its parent company AO. Individuals can bring their unwanted smartphones to any Timpson store and receive instant cash, as stated by the company.
Recent research indicates that 73% of adults in the UK possess at least one unused smartphone at home, with an average trade-in value of approximately £250. The total value of these unused smartphones is estimated to be around £10 billion, according to Censuswide research.
Despite various online resell options available, Timpson aims to attract customers who prefer in-person transactions. The survey revealed that 68% of people prefer trading in their devices face-to-face, with one in four emphasizing the importance of immediate payment.
Timpson and musicMagpie initiated a trial run of the trade-in service four months ago and have now expanded it to over 1,300 Timpson stores nationwide. John Roberts, CEO and founder of AO World, emphasized the convenience of the service, stating that customers can swiftly receive cash for their old smartphones at any of the 1,300 Timpson locations.
The collaboration between musicMagpie’s refurbishment expertise and Timpson’s extensive network aims to help customers unlock the value of their old tech instantly. Steve Oliver, managing director and co-founder of musicMagpie, highlighted the significance of expanding their reach through the partnership with Timpson.
Sid Hubbard, group director of Timpson, expressed satisfaction with the new service, emphasizing the company’s commitment to extending its offerings to include smartphone trade-ins. Timpson, known for repairing various goods for over 150 years, is now pleased to provide smartphone trade-in services in partnership with musicMagpie.
