“Iran’s Violent Crackdown: UK Summons Ambassador”

The UK’s Foreign Office has called in Iran’s ambassador to address the violent crackdown on nationwide protests in Tehran.

Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper highlighted disturbing accounts of potentially numerous casualties in Iran’s harshest response to dissent in over a decade. Due to an ongoing internet blackout in the country, Cooper expressed concerns that the reported figures might not capture the full extent of the atrocities.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump encouraged Iranian protestors to persist, urging them to take control of their institutions. Trump, using his Truth Social platform, wrote, “Iranian Patriots, KEEP PROTESTING – TAKE OVER YOUR INSTITUTIONS!!! “He also warned that those responsible for violence against protestors would face consequences and announced the cancellation of all meetings with Iranian officials until the violence ceased.

In a parliamentary update, the Foreign Office confirmed the summoning of the Iranian ambassador to the UK, Seyed Ali Mousavi, regarding Iran’s actions in response to the protests.

Addressing the House of Commons, Cooper revealed her conversation with the Iranian foreign minister, condemning the killings, violence, and repression witnessed in Iran. She emphasized that additional reports had led to the Middle East minister summoning the Iranian ambassador to underscore the seriousness of the situation and demand accountability for the appalling reports.

Cooper also announced forthcoming sanctions targeting various sectors in Iran, including finance, energy, transport, software, and other significant industries.

The Foreign Secretary dismissed Iran’s claims of foreign influence inciting domestic protests as falsehoods and propaganda. She emphasized the need to support the grassroots movement within Iran that transcends societal boundaries across multiple cities and regions.

In a resolute tone, Cooper stated, “The world is observing Iran, and the UK remains steadfast in confronting the regime’s distortions, condemning its repression, and taking necessary actions to safeguard the UK’s interests.”
