Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) chief adviser has noted a perceived weakness in the American military since the U.S. and Israel initiated their attack on Iran earlier this year. Talks to resolve the conflict have hit a standstill.
In a rare interview with Western media, Brig.-Gen. Mohammad Reza Naqdi mentioned that Iran has not yet achieved its ultimate goal in the war. He expressed confidence in Iran’s current and future victories, emphasizing the learning experiences gained from the prolonged conflict.
A temporary agreement between the U.S. and Iran, intended to halt hostilities, was reached in mid-June but is nearing expiration. Following the breakdown of the ceasefire, both countries engaged in exchanges of strikes before a temporary halt.
Naqdi highlighted the enhanced understanding and capabilities Iran has developed during the conflict, particularly noting perceptions of the American military’s vulnerabilities.
President Donald Trump reaffirmed the U.S.’s control of the Strait of Hormuz, underscoring the country’s naval strength. Since the conflict’s onset, Trump has vacillated between threats of escalation and optimism regarding a potential peace deal.
In a separate effort, Pakistan is actively working to restart negotiations between Iran and the U.S. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister engaged in talks with Iranian officials, indicating a willingness to extend the deadline for the peace deal.
Stumbling blocks in the negotiations include Iran’s control of the vital Strait of Hormuz and accusations from the U.S. regarding Iran’s failure to adhere to agreed terms. The conflict has resulted in significant casualties and widespread disruptions in the region.
Both Iran and the U.S. have escalated their rhetoric, with Iran’s security official warning that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed unless the U.S. meets Iran’s conditions. Meanwhile, Trump has demanded compensation from Iran for past conflicts and incidents.
Efforts continue to secure a final agreement between Iran and the U.S., with tensions remaining high as the negotiations proceed.
