The actor Matt Prokop, known for his role in High School Musical 3, has been arrested in Texas on charges related to possession of child pornography and four misdemeanors, as reported.
Prokop, a former child star, was taken into custody just before Christmas and is facing allegations of aggravated assault of a family member with a weapon and possession of child pornography as felony charges.
The timing for his court appearance to address these charges remains uncertain.
PEOPLE reported that Prokop’s arrest came after his ex-girlfriend, Sarah Hyland, accused him of verbal and physical abuse during their relationship. Allegations include incidents where Prokop reportedly assaulted Hyland.
Hyland obtained a restraining order against Prokop, stating in the filing that he had threatened her and her dog, Barkley Bixby, following the abusive incidents.
In a statement to Variety in 2024, Hyland emphasized the importance of speaking out about domestic violence to create a supportive community for those in abusive relationships.
Prokop has also appeared in various television series, including Hannah Montana, The Office, Good Luck Charlie, and Modern Family.
