A 54-year-old man named Anthony Redmond has been convicted of engaging in sexual activities with two students, including an incident that occurred in a school storage area. Redmond, residing on Fort Austin Avenue in Plymouth, faced trial at Plymouth Crown Court after a police investigation revealed the incidents took place in the 2000s when he worked as a geography teacher in Plymouth.
Redmond denied several charges, including five counts of sexual activity with a minor under 18 and indecency with a child. The offenses occurred at various locations such as his residence, the school premises, and a hotel, with one incident specifically taking place in a school storage area. Testimony from one of the victims described feeling “used and worthless” by Redmond, who was also reported to have taken the virginity of both victims.
Despite his denial, the jury unanimously found Redmond guilty of all charges. Following the verdict, his legal representative requested a pre-sentence report, emphasizing Redmond’s previously unblemished record. Judge Robert Linford granted bail and scheduled sentencing for February 10, commending the jury for their commitment during the trial that spanned over the Christmas and New Year period. He assured them that they could be excused from jury duty for the next 10 years if they so desired.
