A tragic incident unfolded on a busy street in south London as a man lost his life in a collision involving a police vehicle. The unfortunate event took place around 12:35 am on Borough High Street. Despite immediate assistance from the London Ambulance Service and police officers, the man, believed to be in his 30s, could not be saved.
The affected area of Borough High Street was closed off following the collision, leading to diversions for several bus routes. However, normal traffic flow has since resumed. The Metropolitan Police reported that the incident occurred while a marked police vehicle was responding to an emergency call.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has taken over the investigation into the case. The police spokesperson stated that the pedestrian was provided with emergency aid by the officers and paramedics at the scene but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. The deceased’s family has been informed and is receiving support from specialized officers.
The London Ambulance Service dispatched multiple resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, paramedics, and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance. Despite their swift response, the patient was pronounced dead at the site. The incident has been reported to the relevant authorities for further investigation and support.
