Eddie Hearn has given an update on Anthony Joshua, who has returned to training at the gym following a tragic car accident that claimed the lives of two close friends. Joshua, 36, was involved in a serious crash in Nigeria where his friends and team members, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, lost their lives.
Despite suffering only minor injuries, Joshua narrowly escaped death by changing seats before the accident. Recently, the former two-time heavyweight champion was seen back in action at a gym in Dubai, putting on his gloves once again.
Hearn, Joshua’s longtime promoter from Matchroom Boxing, met with Joshua and shared a post on Instagram, praising Joshua’s resilience and strength in the face of adversity. Hearn expressed Joshua’s gratitude for the support received during this difficult time.
Following the accident, there have been uncertainties about Joshua’s future in boxing. Hearn mentioned that Joshua would take a significant break from the sport to recover and heal from the tragic incident.
Hearn emphasized the importance of giving Joshua the space and time to make decisions about his future in boxing, acknowledging the emotional toll the accident has taken on him and the families of the deceased friends. Joshua has yet to comment on speculations about his boxing career but previously paid a heartfelt tribute to Ayodele and Ghami on social media.
Legal actions against Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, the driver involved in the accident, will resume soon. Kayode faces charges related to the incident, including causing death by dangerous driving and other traffic violations.
