A large number of applications and services require a monthly subscription fee for their usage, and now it appears that WhatsApp may be following suit. WABetaInfo has discovered that the Meta-owned messaging platform is in the process of developing an upgrade known as WhatsApp Plus.
This new version is expected to introduce exclusive enhancements and features, such as the ability to pin up to 20 chats (up from the current limit of 3) and enhanced customization options, including changing the app’s theme, icon, and accent colors.
Users might also gain access to bonus stickers, more ringtones, and additional immersive reaction options for chat replies. WABetaInfo explained, “WhatsApp is working on a new optional premium subscription package for its regular consumer app that will provide extra features in exchange for a monthly fee. This package, named ‘WhatsApp Plus,’ is currently being developed for both Android and iOS platforms and has not been officially released yet.”
In addition to the initial improvements, Meta could potentially introduce more features over time for those willing to pay. While WhatsApp has not yet confirmed these speculations, test versions of the Plus app have been identified by WABetaInfo, indicating ongoing development.
It is important to note that the existing free version of WhatsApp will remain available, and users will not be obligated to pay for the premium package. This offering aims to provide WhatsApp users with additional benefits if they are willing to subscribe to a monthly fee.
Further updates regarding WhatsApp Plus are eagerly anticipated. Stay tuned for more details as they unfold.
