An atrocious incident unfolded as a malevolent duo gruesomely killed and dismembered their housemates using meat cleavers.
Jeffrey Mackey, Alexis Nieves, and their accomplice Steven Brown have been convicted and imprisoned for the fatal 2024 assault on Malcom Brown, 53, and Donna Conneely, 59. The victims were fatally stabbed upon entering their residence on February 27, 2024, in Amityville, New York. Prosecutors detailed that Nieves assaulted Conneely with a meat tenderiser before stabbing her, while Mackey proceeded to stab Malcolm in the neck and torso. The heinous act was unveiled when a student stumbled upon a dismembered left arm in a nearby park just two days later.
Authorities uncovered additional human remains at different locations on March 5, 2024, leading to the identification of Malcolm and Donna as the victims. Upon visiting the residence shared by the couple, Malcolm, Conneely, Brown, and his partner Amanda Wallace, law enforcement found incriminating evidence including two meat cleavers, a large kitchen knife, and traces of blood throughout the property.
Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney previously disclosed that “the defendants allegedly dismembered the victims’ bodies in the bathroom of the home.” Steven and Wallace were implicated in assisting with the dismemberment and disposal of the victims’ remains, according to a police statement.
Mackey, 40, Nieves, 35, and Brown, who was Malcolm’s cousin, pleaded guilty to the charges in April 2024. Mackey and Nieves received reduced sentences through a plea agreement, citing abuse suffered from their victims as a mitigating factor.
In court proceedings, Mackey’s attorney asserted that “Jeffrey Mackey and his wife were subjected to physical, emotional, and financial abuse by the victims, which motivated these crimes.”
Mackey was sentenced to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of second-degree murder, while Nieves received an 11-year prison term for a misdemeanor. Brown was handed a five-year sentence for conspiracy. Wallace admitted guilt to concealing a human corpse and was sentenced to a maximum of two years behind bars in November.
During the trial, Mackey expressed remorse, stating, “I deeply regret the events that transpired. I wish they were still alive, and I regret ever crossing paths with them. I offer my sincerest apologies to the families, as I wish this tragedy had never occurred.”
However, Malcolm’s family criticized the sentencing, regarding it as lenient. They voiced their dissatisfaction, highlighting Steven Brown’s five-year sentence as inadequate for the severity of the crimes committed.
