“Benefit Payment Changes Expected for Christmas & New Year”

Thousands of individuals expecting benefits like Universal Credit are set to experience changes in their payment schedules next month due to the upcoming Christmas and New Year bank holidays.

With Christmas Day falling on a Thursday and Boxing Day on a Friday, benefit payments slated for those days are likely to be processed on Wednesday, December 24. Similarly, since New Year’s Day falls on a Thursday this year, payments scheduled for that day should be expected on Wednesday, December 31.

While an official confirmation is pending from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) regarding the exact timetable for Christmas and New Year benefit payments, the aforementioned adjustment aligns with past years’ practices.

In case of early payments, recipients should budget wisely as the next payment might be delayed, necessitating longer financial planning.

Payment frequency varies based on the type of benefit received. For instance, Universal Credit is typically paid on a fixed monthly date, while Tax Credits are usually disbursed every four weeks or weekly. Child Benefit is typically paid every four weeks on a Monday or Tuesday.

If there are discrepancies in benefit payments, individuals should first double-check their award notice and bank account details. If the issue persists, contacting the relevant helpline is advised, bearing in mind that assistance might not be available on bank holidays.
