“Canada’s Eurovision Debut: Artists Vie for Spotlight”

Canada is gearing up for its first appearance at the Eurovision Song Contest, aiming to make a memorable debut on the international stage. The selection of Canada’s representative is a crucial decision, with the potential artists having a significant impact on the country’s performance.

The portal for performers to apply to represent Canada at Eurovision is now open, welcoming submissions from talented individuals. While the opportunity is open to all, CBC/Radio-Canada is seeking performers with a proven track record in the music industry.

Several artists have already expressed their interest in competing for the chance to represent Canada on the Eurovision stage. Among them are Rêve, who won the 2023 Juno Award for Dance Recording of the Year, Talk, the breakthrough artist of the year in 2024, and bbno$, the Fan Choice Juno winner in 2025 and 2026.

To be eligible, potential contestants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 or older by May 1, 2027, with the ability to travel internationally and pass standard background checks. The application process requires candidates to submit two videos showcasing their live performance and expressing their passion for Eurovision.

The selection process will involve CBC/Radio-Canada consulting music and television experts, as well as industry professionals, to create a shortlist of finalists. While established artists may have an advantage in the first year, emerging talents are encouraged to participate for future opportunities.

The chosen artist will play a key role in shaping the final song for Eurovision, with the delegation reaching out to established songwriters for collaboration. The selected artist will be heavily involved in the songwriting process, music video production, and performance preparation leading up to the Eurovision Grand Final in May.

Despite the workload involved, artists participating in Eurovision can expect significant exposure and recognition on a global scale. The final selection for Canada’s representative will be a combination of online public voting and a jury vote, with the chosen artist set to be announced before winter.
