“London Woman Handcuffed for Feeding Pigeons”

In a concerning incident, a woman was handcuffed and issued a £100 fixed penalty notice by police for feeding pigeons in a small park.

London Wildlife Protection, an animal welfare group, criticized the London Metropolitan Police for arresting one of their members who was caring for pigeons in Wealdstone Square, Harrow. The woman, unidentified, was taken away by Met police officers for allegedly violating Section 50 of the Police Reform Act.

London Wildlife Protection expressed dismay on social media, stating that the treatment of their volunteer was unfair and unjust. They condemned the police action as disgraceful and vowed to pursue formal complaints and legal recourse.

A spokesperson from the Metropolitan Police clarified that the woman was not arrested for feeding pigeons but for refusing to provide her details to council officers issuing a fixed penalty notice. She was eventually released and handled by council authorities.

According to Harrow Council, the woman breached a Public Spaces Protection Order prohibiting bird feeding in the area. Refusal to provide personal information and continue feeding the pigeons resulted in a fine of £100 under the PSPO regulations.

The incident highlights the enforcement of local regulations concerning public spaces and animal welfare, emphasizing the importance of compliance with community guidelines.
