“Amber Alert: Intense Snowfall Hits Scotland Regions”

The Met Office has issued a new amber weather alert for “intense and continuous snowfall,” advising residents in six regions to stock up on essential items.

The snow warning, affecting parts of central and eastern Scotland, will be in effect from 3 am until 2 pm tomorrow. It accompanies a broader yellow warning for ice and snow, impacting 51 areas in Scotland and northern England. The amber advisory cautions against driving in these conditions and recommends preparing torches, batteries, a mobile phone charger, and other necessities.

According to the Met Office, a snow band will move in on Sunday morning, with expected snowfall of 2cm to 5cm in lower areas, 10cm to 15cm above 150 meters, and 20cm to 30cm above 300 meters. Strong winds may cause snow drifting and blizzard conditions, potentially leading to deep snowdrifts.

The weather alerts cover various regions including Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, East Midlands, North East England, North West England, Orkney & Shetland, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders, Strathclyde, West Midlands, and Yorkshire & Humber. The UK forecast for Sunday predicts wet and windy weather, snow in the north, possible ice from freezing rain, coastal gales, and mild conditions in the west.

Additionally, a yellow ice warning is active until midday today in several areas, cautioning about refreezing snow, freezing fog, and wintry showers, increasing the risk of icy surfaces. Another yellow snow and ice warning for Northern Ireland, in place from 5 pm yesterday until 11 am today, anticipates icy patches and hill snow.
