Tommy Fleetwood has expressed his approval of Brooks Koepka’s comeback to the PGA Tour and mentioned that LIV Golf has not approached him during this postseason. Koepka recently left the Saudi-backed tour and swiftly returned to the PGA Tour, with his first event scheduled for the Farmers Insurance Open next week, providing a significant boost to the tour.
Following Koepka’s move, LIV Golf may face challenges retaining other top players, as Patrick Reed hinted at a potential return to the PGA Tour. Fleetwood, ranked No.3 globally, praised the PGA Tour’s quality and lucrative events, emphasizing his gratitude for the opportunities to compete there.
Fleetwood, who won $10 million at the Tour Championships last year, is now focusing on achieving his first Major victory. He emphasized the importance of aligning personal goals and dreams with the golfing environment, noting that players strive to excel where they can pursue their aspirations effectively.
LIV Golf, financially supported by Newcastle’s Public Investment Fund, made substantial investments in the initial seasons, with Koepka signing a $150 million deal and Rahm potentially earning up to $400 million. This year, the signings have been less high-profile, including players like Victor Perez, Laurie Canter, and others.
Despite being a target for LIV Golf in the past, Fleetwood’s value has soared, and he confirmed that the organization has not approached him recently. His Ryder Cup teammate, Shane Lowry, expressed support for Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour, highlighting the positive impact on the tour’s smaller events.
Lowry also reflected on his recent performance at the Dubai Invitational, where a final-hole mishap cost him a shot at victory. He mentioned trying to move past the disappointment and focus on upcoming tournaments.
