Waitrose has introduced “Little Treat” vouchers as part of its myWaitrose loyalty scheme revamp. These vouchers are available in 18 trial stores and are unlocked when customers spend £50, £100, and £250. Shoppers can receive up to three vouchers monthly, with the count resetting at the beginning of each month.
The vouchers can be redeemed for free products or discounts on future supermarket purchases. Waitrose has clarified that these vouchers will not replace existing loyalty benefits such as complimentary hot drinks, discounts on select products, and Uber Eats offers.
Nathan Ansell, Waitrose’s chief customer officer, emphasized the value the company places on its loyal customers through the “Little Treats” initiative. He expressed the intention to delight customers with various treats throughout the year as a token of appreciation for being part of the My Waitrose community.
In a related development, Waitrose now allows customers to borrow reusable coffee cups when claiming their free drink, with a £3 charge for unreturned cups after a week. This service, initially tested in nine stores, requires customers to scan their MyWaitrose card for access.
Customers can still bring their own cups if they prefer, as long as they fit under the self-service machine nozzle. Previously, Waitrose required myWaitrose members to make a purchase to avail of the free drink service. The company reinstated complimentary tea and coffee for loyalty cardholders last year, even without a purchase.
Furthermore, Waitrose announced plans to open a new full-size supermarket in North Bristol in 2027, marking its first large-scale store in seven years. The John Lewis Partnership, Waitrose’s parent company, has sealed a significant deal to expand its supermarket operations. The new store, a collaboration with YTL Developments, is anticipated to generate around 150 job opportunities and cover an area of 30,000 square feet.
