A recent analysis by SpeedGo, a new broadband speed-testing service, reveals that Virgin Media leads the UK in average download speeds, reaching an impressive 256.5Mbps. This speed allows users to download a full HD movie in just over two minutes, significantly faster than the national average.
Following Virgin Media, Vodafone secured the second spot with average download speeds of 175Mbps, with BT (EE) trailing close behind. TalkTalk was positioned at the bottom of the list with an average speed of nearly 95Mbps.
The rankings for average download speeds in the UK are as follows:

Additionally, SpeedGo’s analysis of upload speeds, crucial for users who frequently send large files or work remotely, revealed that Vodafone leads in this category with an average upload speed of 83.6Mbps, surpassing Virgin Media in second place with 47.2Mbps.
SpeedGo affirmed these findings, stating that in 2025, Virgin Media provided the fastest broadband internet in the United Kingdom with an average download speed of 256.5Mbps, while Vodafone achieved the highest average upload speed of 83.6Mbps.
