Tesco is set to distribute numerous complimentary Christmas trees for a limited time only. These unique trees, often deemed “wonky” due to imperfections like uneven branches or slight tilting, would typically not be available for purchase. However, Tesco will be offering them at no cost on Saturday, December 6, in selected stores, with the suggestion that recipients make donations to food charities Fareshare and Trussell.
The free trees will be obtainable at various locations including Colney Hatch Extra, Borehamwood Extra, Hammersmith, Southport Extra, Goole Superstore, Glossop Superstore, Bristol Brislington Extra, Cardiff Extra, Dundee Riverside Extra, and Glasgow Maryhill Extra. The distribution will commence at 10 am on a first-come, first-served basis, limited to one tree per household. In comparison, the least expensive Christmas trees elsewhere are priced at £13.99 from Aldi and £14.99 from Home Bargains.
Tesco’s UK CEO, Ashwin Prasad, emphasized the importance of embracing imperfect yet charming moments during the festive season. A recent survey by Tesco revealed that a significant percentage of Brits value the imperfect aspects of Christmas, with 87% agreeing that perfection is not necessary for the holiday spirit, and 74% believing that imperfections contribute to the essence of Christmas. The survey, conducted by Censuswide, involved 2,000 UK adults.
In addition to the Christmas tree initiative, Tesco has announced a promotion offering two Clubcard points for every £1 spent on gift cards throughout December. This promotion applies to all third-party gift cards purchased at Tesco stores, automatically awarding double points to Clubcard accounts. Tesco currently boasts approximately 24 million Clubcard members, with points earned through various purchases, including groceries, fuel, Tesco Mobile, and Tesco credit card transactions. Clubcard members can redeem vouchers starting at 150 points, equivalent to £1.50 for Tesco purchases.
