Ohio Woman Pleads Guilty to Child Sexual Abuse

A woman has admitted guilt in a disturbing case of child sexual abuse following the discovery of appalling videos at her residence, including content involving bestiality.

In July, detectives were alerted by the Ohio Crimes Against Children Task Force about potential child abuse at the home of Shawna Mayfield, 28, and Justin Mayfield, 37. Upon searching the premises, authorities found child sexual abuse materials that Mayfield had possessed, shared, produced, and replicated.

Described as a substantial amount of evidence against the couple, the footage depicted Mrs. Mayfield engaging in sexual abuse of a four-year-old child and both Mayfields coercing another child into adult behavior. Communication between the Mayfields revealed their exchange of videos depicting child abuse, with additional footage showing Mrs. Mayfield performing a sexual act on the family dog in May 2025, according to court documents obtained by WFMJ.

According to WKBN, Trumbull County Assistant Prosecutor Gabe Wildman stated that videos of the defendant engaging in sexual acts with an animal, specifically a dog, were uncovered during the search warrant execution. Additionally, the couple was found to have exceeded legal limits with a marijuana grow operation on the property.

On January 7, Mrs. Mayfield, facing charges including pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor, rape, sexual conduct with an animal, and endangering children, changed her plea to guilty. As part of the agreement, she agreed to assist authorities and testify against her husband, in return for a recommended prison sentence of 30 years to life. Sentencing will take place at a later date in Warren, Ohio.

Mrs. Mayfield, with no prior criminal record as reported by the Tribune Chronicle, detailed her testimony on record. Failure to cooperate will nullify the plea deal, leading to potential conviction on all charges, including those to be dismissed.

Her rape convictions span from June 2023 to August 2025, with each count carrying a penalty of 10 years to life in prison. The charge of sexual conduct with an animal is considered a second-degree misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail.

Mr. Mayfield faces multiple rape charges, disseminating harmful materials to juveniles, and endangering children. While prosecutors offered a 50-year to life sentence in exchange for a plea deal, his defense attorney proposed an alternative.

Attorney Brendan Keating argued for a sentence more in line with what Mrs. Mayfield received, despite her facing more charges. The defense requested a reconsideration of the offer that is less severe than the proposed 50-year to life sentence.

Mr. Mayfield is set to appear in court on January 12, with his trial scheduled to commence later in the month.
