Britain’s top intelligence official has cautioned that there is no proof indicating that Russian President Vladimir Putin is interested in engaging in peace talks regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. MI6 Chief Sir Richard Moore expressed his skepticism, stating that Putin is merely prolonging discussions without genuine intent to negotiate a resolution. Despite extensive efforts, including talks led by the US and a meeting between Donald Trump and Putin, a peace agreement remains elusive as the conflict nears its fourth year since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Sir Richard asserted that Putin’s ambitions to assert dominance through force are apparent, but he is facing more resistance than anticipated, underestimating the resilience of the Ukrainian people. The MI6 head emphasized that Putin’s misleading narrative of inevitable Russian victory is detrimental, as he sacrifices his nation’s future for personal gain and a distorted historical legacy, accelerating Russia’s decline.
In a bold move, MI6 has launched a secure portal named “Silent Courier” on the dark web to attract potential intelligence sources, particularly from Russia, encouraging individuals with valuable information to reach out. Sir Richard, who will soon step down from his position, extended an invitation to courageous truth-tellers in Russia to collaborate with MI6. Blaise Metreweli is set to become the first female leader of the Secret Intelligence Service, succeeding Sir Richard.
Following Trump’s disappointment with Putin during his UK visit, where he expressed feeling let down over failed negotiations, Ukraine reported continued attacks from Moscow, including drone strikes and missile assaults. President Zelenskyy disclosed Russia’s aggressive actions, with Ukraine retaliating by targeting critical installations within Russia, disrupting the enemy’s war efforts. Recent strikes on oil facilities and depots have intensified the conflict between the two nations.
