“Iran Protests Escalate: Death Toll Rises Amid Crackdown”

Protests have been ongoing in Iran for nearly two weeks, with the government acknowledging the demonstrations as the country remains isolated from the international community.

Due to internet shutdowns and disrupted phone lines in Iran, monitoring the protests against the Iranian government from outside has become increasingly challenging. The death toll in the demonstrations has risen to a minimum of 65 individuals, with over 2,300 others reportedly detained, as per the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency.

Iranian state TV has been highlighting security force casualties while emphasizing control over the nation. Despite warnings from the US, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has indicated an imminent crackdown.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed support for the Iranian people on the social media platform X. The US State Department issued a separate caution stating, “Do not underestimate President Trump. His statements are to be taken seriously.”

Saturday marked the beginning of the workweek in Iran, with many schools and universities conducting online classes, according to Iranian state TV. The television station frequently features a patriotic orchestral piece by Iranian composer Majid Entezami, commemorating Iran’s historic liberation of Khorramshahr during the Iran-Iraq war.

Despite state TV reports of peace in most cities at night, contrary evidence surfaced in an online video confirmed by the Associated Press, showing large-scale demonstrations in northern Tehran. Additional footage released by the Fars news agency depicted unrest in Isfahan, including a protester brandishing a firearm and attacks on a government facility.

Reports emerged of casualties among security forces, including members of the Basij force and police officers in various cities. State TV also covered a funeral service in the city of Qom.

The ongoing protests in Iran have resulted in fires, clashes with security forces, and a significant death toll, with at least 65 individuals losing their lives during the uprising.
