For those who enjoy coffee, I have always felt a tinge of envy. Whenever I am out with friends or visiting someone, my choice of a Diet Coke never fails to surprise and even shock them. Unlike many, I have never developed a liking for hot beverages, always opting for water, juice, or fizzy drinks over tea or coffee.
Despite having a demanding schedule with a toddler, late nights, and a partner who adores coffee, I have never been drawn to it. Even during the challenging phases of my daughter’s first year, coffee never seemed appealing to me. While I have attempted to take a sip now and then, the taste has always repulsed me, especially since I am not fond of milk either.
In an attempt to expand my palate, I decided to give coffee a fair chance. Seeking advice from coffee enthusiasts, they recommended I try a flat white. However, in hindsight, I realized that it might not have been the most beginner-friendly choice for me.
Opting for a coffee at a local store with friends, I hoped for a better experience. Unfortunately, the bitterness of the coffee was overpowering, and even adding sugar did not improve my opinion. Trying a cappuccino afterward confirmed that coffee might not be my cup of tea, so to speak.
Despite not enjoying the taste, I did notice a temporary surge in energy after consuming the coffee. However, the effects were short-lived, and I soon felt fatigued again.
Undeterred by my initial encounters, I decided to give coffee another chance the following day. This time, I chose a mocha from a nearby independent café, hoping that the chocolate infusion would make it more palatable. Surprisingly, I found the combination of coffee and chocolate quite delightful, finishing the entire cup with a newfound appreciation.
Looking ahead, I am eager to explore other coffee options on future outings, although I may steer clear of flat whites for now. Perhaps an iced frappuccino could be my next experiment in the world of coffee delights.
