“Halfords to Close All Stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day”

Halfords has declared that it will shut down all its stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day this year. The automotive retailer aims to provide its staff nationwide with a much-needed break to enjoy time with their families. While Halfords stores will be closed on Christmas Day as well, they will resume normal operations on all other days during the festive period.

Henry Birch, the CEO of Halfords, emphasized the dedication of their employees throughout the year, often working tirelessly to keep the country moving. Recognizing their hard work, Birch highlighted the importance of allowing everyone the opportunity to unwind and cherish moments with loved ones.

The decision to close stores on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day is a gesture of gratitude towards the team and aims to ensure they return rejuvenated for the upcoming year.

Following an impressive performance over the last half-year, Halfords reported a surge in sales and profits. Cycling sales saw a notable 9% increase for the half-year ending on September 26 compared to the previous year, contributing to a 3.3% rise in total revenues to £893.3 million. Additionally, the motoring and autocentres divisions witnessed growth in like-for-like revenues.

Apart from Halfords, Home Bargains has also chosen to keep its stores closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, continuing a tradition from past years. Similarly, Aldi will shut its doors on these dates, with extended operating hours leading up to Christmas for customer convenience.

Both Home Bargains and Aldi expressed gratitude to their staff for their hard work throughout the year and encouraged them to relax and enjoy the festive season with their loved ones, reflecting the sentiment of many retailers in honoring the holiday break.
