In the realm of television entertainment, two major players stand out: Freeview and Sky. These platforms boast massive user bases in the UK for good reason. Freeview offers cost-free viewing options, while Sky provides premium channels and exclusive sports content not found on regular TV services.
However, a new contender, Freely, has emerged as a compelling alternative. Launched recently, Freely utilizes broadband connectivity instead of traditional aerials or satellite dishes to deliver content to viewers’ screens, akin to Sky’s web-powered Glass TVs.
Moreover, many modern TVs come equipped with Freely integration, eliminating the need for external set-top boxes or dongles.
Adding to its appeal, Channel 4 has announced the launch of three new streaming channels exclusively on Freely. These channels, namely 4Reality, 4Homes, and 4Life, mark Channel 4’s debut streaming platforms in the UK.
Viewers can access 4Reality on channel 67, 4Homes on channel 68, and 4Life on channel 82 through Freely-powered screens only.
There is speculation that Freely could potentially surpass Freeview as more individuals transition from traditional TV to streaming services. Notably, Freely is under the ownership of Everyone TV, the same entity behind Freeview.
Grace Boswood, Channel 4’s Director of Technology & Distribution, expressed pride in enhancing Freely’s offerings, emphasizing Channel 4’s commitment to evolving in the streaming era.
Additionally, Jonathan Thompson, CEO of Everyone TV, highlighted the partnership with Channel 4 in expanding high-quality streamed content on Freely, mentioning the exclusive channels featuring diverse shows from the Channel 4 portfolio.
The new channels offer a variety of content:
– 4Reality (channel 67) showcases reality TV favorites like Married at First Sight and First Dates.
– 4Homes (channel 68) features shows centered around homes and properties, including Grand Designs and A Place in the Sun.
– 4Life (channel 82) presents real-life stories, travel, food, and more, with programs like The Dog House and Travel Man.
Freely aims to provide a vast array of shows without the burden of expensive monthly subscriptions, catering to the evolving preferences of viewers seeking diverse and exclusive content offerings in the streaming landscape.
