“Family’s Magical Lapland Day Trip: A Winter Wonderland Adventure”

Lapland, known as Finland’s winter wonderland and the fabled abode of Santa Claus, is a dream destination for children enchanted by the spirit of Christmas. Its enchanting snow-clad forests and roaming reindeer create a picturesque holiday setting.

A family recently experienced this enchantment firsthand with a fast-paced day trip to Lapland aboard a private jet. Karianne Brown, her husband Allen, and their eight-year-old daughter Jessica, along with 189 others, embarked on an adventure to Santa’s homeland organized through the Facebook group “Extreme Day Trips.”

Extreme Day Trips, founded by Michael Cracknell, specializes in coordinating day-long journeys from the UK to various European locations, catering to travelers seeking quick and efficient travel options to explore new places within a day and fostering a sense of community among diverse travelers.

Chartering a private plane for the Lapland expedition proved cost-effective for the group of 189 participants compared to individual commercial flights. On a Saturday in November 2025, Karianne and her companions departed from Gatwick Airport to Finland for their snowy escapade, as reported by the Express.

The private flight not only offered the group a luxurious journey but also included a delicious breakfast featuring scrambled eggs, ham, mushrooms, and potato-onion rosti served on board.

While Rovaniemi stands as a popular destination in Lapland, the group opted for the less crowded Enontekiö, a serene yet equally enchanting corner of the magical wilderness. Karianne, also known as Kari, described the experience as a beautiful blend of snowy forests.

Upon arrival in Enontekiö around 2 pm local time, the group delved into a range of memorable activities in the quaint village of Hetta. From meeting Santa to husky rides, reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobiling, sledging, and snowball fights, the day was packed with winter delights, including husky racing on a frozen lake.

Equipped with thermal gear, the group enjoyed leisure activities like tobogganing and browsing a gift shop for festive mementos. A cozy dinner of salads, pasta, and bolognese was complemented by warm berry juice and biscuits in a rustic canteen setting.

Reflecting on the day, Kari expressed satisfaction with the well-paced itinerary that allowed them to savor every experience fully. She regretted missing out on the option for repeat activities due to the weather, which was a mild -5°C despite earlier colder temperatures.

After an unforgettable adventure in Lapland, the group returned to Gatwick around 11 pm, with Kari sharing the excitement and joy that everyone experienced during the magical journey. The trip, organized through Gnome and Away Travel, offered a comprehensive package that included a private meeting with Santa, thrilling winter activities, meals, and gear rental.

As an avid traveler and organizer of Extreme Day Trips, Kari has explored various European destinations and is considering future day trips to New York and other locations. The group’s flexible scheduling allows travelers of all ages and preferences to embark on exciting escapades without the constraints of long vacations.

For those seeking unique travel experiences, the allure of quick day trips to diverse destinations continues to captivate travel enthusiasts, promising a blend of adventure and discovery for all participants.
